I was part of a small group of Film, Theatre, Music & Art Practitioners who met up the other day to touch base on how the year 2015 had gone for each of us and what were our plans for the fast approaching year of 2016. We used the same small venue as we'd done before - maybe we'll continue to use it in 2016 - maybe we won't? But the one thing we'll have to sort out is the state of affairs with the Instant Coffee! Sometimes it's been okay - but sometimes, like a few days ago, it was rough - 'to say the least' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zckoWeQPpUc
So we'll definitely have to sort this out as part of our 'collective core strategy' for 2016 ie. Get some decent coffee for a change..... :O)
Anyhow, getting back to the main reason for meeting up - we all agreed, those of us in Arts (Painters, Sculptors, Ceramicists); Music, Theatre and Film, just like most of the other creative practitioners out there (that we know individually as well as mutually) have found some of our goals hard to come by - sometimes very challenging indeed. However, this has been a good thing rather than a negative - because as 'TRUE CREATIVES' - it's forced us all to 'flex-up' and 'adapt' and thus, 'Step Up To The Mark' - either as Individuals or groups - in order to get the necessary jobs done ie. Administration, Fund-raising, Marketing, Publicity, Training, Research, Collaboration, obtaining Constructive Feedback, Decision-Making, Reflection etc etc. Sometimes you go it alone with all of the above, sometimes you call for assistance, other times you help out, sometimes you simply have to collaborate to achieve your results! This is what it's all about - being a Creative Practitioner.....;O)
I for one, have been continuing to build on a small number of working relationships ie. across art-forms in order to set up the necessary foundation for interesting 'Near-Future' Collaborations as well as focusing on my own two main areas, which happen to be in Film & Theatre. The plan is to continue to hone my own craft as well as diversify as a creative business - so that I'm not left stranded either creatively or financially in 2016. Here's to the future!
